Can be used in high traffic conditions by providing alternative
routing between stations.
Comparatively expensive to set up due to the amount of cable
required and the complexity of stations to provide intelligent routing.where cost is of
secondary importance. Most WANs - Wide Area Networks, i.e. PTN - Public
Telephone Network and PDN - Public Data Network.use the mesh topology.

2. STAR
The central node usually employs switching techniques to
interconnect stations. Circuit, message (Store and Forward) or packet switching may be
provided.
Broadcast facilities to more than one station are not normally
provided. The main advantages are central network control and simple attachment hardware
at each station.
The central node most often controls shared information on disk
drives and/or printer servers.
If the central node "goes down" then the whole system is
out of action. Low speed transmission is normally used.
